My Friend Flicka by Mary O' Hara

My Friend Flicka
Have you ever wanted something so bad that it hurt? Ken or Kennie McLaughlin is the youngest boy of 2 sons. Near Cheyenne, Wyoming, Ken lives on Goose Bar ranch. Ken has grown to love horses. He struggles in school and is a day dreamer. Ken has problems following directions and looses lots of stuff. All of a sudden Ken's dream came true. His parents, Rob and Nell, decided to give him a colt. He chose Flicka. Rob did not like that Kennie did because Flicka comes from a long blood line of Albino blood  that is considered loco. Ken thinks Flicka is the most beautiful filly because of the way she runs. When Kennie caught Flicka, she tried to escape and got cut by the barb wire. The wounds the barb wire gave her became infected. Flicka became very ill. Her fever was eating away at her flesh. When it was a rainy night, Ken went down to see her and saw that she was in the river. Kennie ran to her  and held Flicka's head in his arms above water. When Gus went down to shoot Flicka, he found Ken and quickly ran him inside. Ken became very ill. My opinion of this book is that it shows how responsibility can turn a kid into a man. Mary O'Hara weaves a story of friendship between a horse and boy into an adventure with mountain lions and commitment.  Ken never gave up on his dream of owning his own horse, even when it went against his father's wishes. In the end, it was the relationship between Rob and Ken that developed an understanding when Rob saw the difference in his son.  I recommend this book to anyone  that likes  animal books, especially horses, and suspense. I rated it 4 out of 5 stars!

The Boy in The Striped Pajamas by John Boyne

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
I thought it good because each chapter I wanted to know what was going to happen next, so it made me wonder. Also I usually didn't want to put the book down because I wanted to know what was going to happen next.  It was about a boy and his ways to be adventurous at his new home with his parent’s sister and maid. He never knew they moved here cause of a concentration camp, he just thought his dad had a big work thing. Soon he finds a boy around his age and then they become best friends, but he needs to line up for March and you walk out u die!.... I think this a good book for middle school kids and want something that is a little harsh but a very good book. I rate it 4 out of 5 stars.

Bliss by Kathryn Littlewood

Bliss (The Bliss Bakery, #1)
This book is about a family named the Bliss family who has a magical cookery book. The book has recipes; not just regular recipes they are magical recipes that have very unique ingredients.  That make such curious bake goods. One day the mayor came to their bakery and asked the Bliss family if they would make a baked good for everyone who got sick with the summer flu because they had a secret recipe to heal them it was made with one of the very unique ingredients. The Bliss family’s parents said yes we would love to make bake goods for all the people who had the summer flu.
The Bliss family has many other unique stories and recipes throughout the book that are very magical. The Bliss kids find them out when they are not supposed to after being told not to touch the cookery book.

The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1)16 year old Katniss Everdeen wants to run away. Run away from the capitol, away from District 12, but mostly away from the reaping. Girls and boys ages 12-18 have their names put into a drawing and whoever gets drawn has to fight to the death in The Hunger Games.
